Chef's Table at The English Grill - Throughout The Year

Delight in a true culinary adventure with The English Grill's Chef's Table. The experience can be enjoyed right in the restaurant's kitchen, up close with The Brown Hotel's Executive Chef Laurent Géroli, as he creates masterpieces using the freshest local ingredients.   The special seven-course prix fixe menu gives guests an opportunity to dine in the Hotel's main kitchen while engaging Chef Géroli for a lively discussion about ingredients, wine, cooking techniques and the art of making four-star cuisine.

The seven-course Chef's Table, a Louisville tradition known as "the ultimate dining experience," is a gastronomic indulgence complete with wine pairings and is $150 per person plus tax and gratuity. The minimum number of guests to reserve the Chef's Table is 4, and the maximum is 8. As a courtesy, seven-course Chef's Table local guests can request to be picked up or dropped off by the hotel van (available for parties of eight).

Thursday, May 22,  2008: A Beringer Vinyards Wine Dinner

The English Grill presents a very special evening featuring wines from Beringer Vinyards, with guest speaker Jamie Alexander Stewart, Sommelier. The Brown Hotel's Executive Chef Laurent Géroi has created a special menu for the occasion.

Thursday, February 14,  2007: Valentine’s Day at the English Grill

Begin the most romantic evening of the year at The English Grill with a five-course prix fixe prepared by The Brown Hotel’s executive chef Laurent Géroli. Begin with Salmon and Rabbit Rillettes, Duck Confit Risotto, and Cauliflower Soup with Fresh Black Truffle and Foie Gras. Entrée choices include Pan-seared Blue Fin Tuna, American Buffalo Strip Steak and Roasted Quails with wild rice. Indulge in a sweet finish like the Black Forest Panna Cotta and Bing Cherries drizzled with a sweet caramel-chocolate bourbon sauce. Toast the evening with a glass of G.H. Tuesday, February 5, 2008: The Brown Hotel Announces 4th Annual Hot Chocolate Celebration

Shake off the winter chill and celebrate Mardi Gras at The Brown Hotel on Fat Tuesday, February 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. for the 4th Annual Hot Chocolate Celebration. The whole family can enjoy a variety of gourmet hot chocolate and hors d’oeuvres created by The Brown Hotel’s executive chef Laurent Géroli and his culinary team in the lobby of the historic hotel. The cost of each cup of hot chocolate is $5 and includes a set of Mardi Gras beads. All of the proceeds will directly benefit The Home of the Innocents and Court Appointed Special Advocates(CASA).  

This year’s selection of chocolate refreshments includes something exotic, a taste of white chocolate and something fruity. Spanish Chocolate Amore, featuring the sweet and spicy flavor of cumin, red pepper and honey cinnamon, will be available along with White Hot Chocolate,  an almond-flavored drink with bourbon chocolate shaving. Make sure to try the Soy Milk Hot Chocolate too. Guests will be able to balance the sweet treats with savory delights, as complimentary tastes of the legendary hot brown will be available along with other hors d’oeuvres.


 

Monday, December 31, 2007: A Gala New Years Eve Dinner and Celebration at The Brown Hotel and English Grill

Jason Horek is the Champagne Ambassador for Pernod Ricard USA, representing  Perrier Jouet Champagne, GH Mumm Champagne and Mumm Napa Sparkling wine. He is a frequent speaker   at wine seminars and  focuses on educating wine enthusiasts on Champagne and sparkling wine.  Jason has over 5 years experience beginning his professional career with Southern Wine and Spirits Illinois. He has traveled extensively to the great wine regions of France, Italy, California and South America. With Pernod Ricard USA he has focused his study on the French wine regions, specifically Champagne.  Jason’s travels to Champagne and his active involvement in the wine community allows him to share his insight on the most recent trends, methods and techniques in Champagne and sparkling wine.

The Brown Hotel Welcomes the Holidays with Teddy Bear Tea!

Stories with Santa, Teddy and Gourmet Treats to Benefit Local Children’s Charities!

Saturday, December 8 and Saturday, December 15. From 2 to 4 p.m.

The cost for each event is $30 for adults, $20 for kids and includes a toy for each child. Tax and gratuity are additional. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Brown Hotel will donate $10 per child back to the Home of the Innocents and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Seating for this event is limited and reservations are required. To save a seat for either day, call 502-583-1234 ext 7108.

Thursday, November 22, 2007: Thanksgiving in the English Grill

Reserve your table today for this Louisville tradition. A trip to The Brown Hotel will take art lovers to another world this season! Gallery at The Brown will begin showcasing the fantastical paintings of Louisville artist Dean Kennedy on Friday, September 14 with a wine and cheese reception from 6 to 8 p.m. The show will run through Wednesday, October 31. The exhibit and reception are open to the public and admission is free.  

“Dean Kennedy’s paintings are colorful, thoughtful pieces which lead the viewer through an odyssey of discovery,” said Gallery at The Brown director Christian Trabue. “Each painting focuses on one main subject who is surrounded by intricate patterns and colors reminiscent of the works of Gustav Klimt. In those colors and patterns, you’ll find hidden faces, animals, and objects.”

Kennedy is an Owensboro native who began his painting career in the advertising arts more than 30 years ago. Since then his art has shown up in national campaigns for such organizations as the NFL, NBA, Colorado Rockies, Coors, Budweiser, Procter & Gamble, the Wall Street Journal, Field and Stream, and Time Magazine. His colorful images have garnered prestigious awards across the country including gold medals from Society of Illustrators.  He currently lives in Louisville and works as a freelance artist in between working on his stunning collection.

Summer Cooking Classes with Chef Laurent Géroli
During the sizzling summer months, The Brown Hotel is heating things up with a series of summer classes taught by Chef Laurent Géroli and his talented culinary team at The English Grill. Classes include a soft shell crab cooking demonstration and tasting, a hands-on cooking experience for kids and a trip to the farmer's and fish market followed by lunch at The Brown Hotel. Tuesday, June 19, 2007 - 6pm-8pm - Soft Shell Crab cooking demonstration - $55.

Chef Laurent Géroli will show a variety of ways to tackle the soft shell crab. Guests can enjoy a glass of wine and hors d'oeuvres while Chef Géroli demonstrates recipes for making the delicate shelled crustaceans.

Sunday, July 22, 2007 -10 am-Noon - Kids Hands - On Cooking Experience - $65

Chef Laurent Géroli's making kid favorites with an upscale accent. In a unique experience just for kids ages 6 - 12, he will teach participants how to make gourmet food which appeals to children, including a hands - on dessert demonstration. Each child will also receive a special gift from Chef. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 8am-Noon - The Market Adventure - $65

This adventure begins at the Highlands Farmers Market, learning how to take advantage of the benefits of fresh produce. The class then journeys to the fish market, before lunching at The English Grill, complete with wine.

Executive Chef Laurent Géroli is toasting the beginning of summer with a Grgich Hills Cellars wine dinner. Violet Grgich of Grgich Hills Cellars, co-proprietor and vice president of sales and operations, will join Chef Géroli for this special dining event. Grgich will be on-hand to discuss the legendary wine from her family's Napa Valley winery.

Miljenko "Mike" Grgich was first recognized as an exceptional winemaker when his Chateau Montelena Chardonnay was chosen as the finest white wine in the world at the "Paris Tasting" of 1976. Grgich, along with Austin Hills and his sister Mary Lee Strebl, started Grgich Hills Cellars the next year. In the heart of Napa Valley, Grgich Hills produces an award-winning Chardonnay, along with a crisp Fumé Blanc, a rich and spicy Zinfandel, aa deep and complex Cabernet Sauvignon, an aromatic Merlot and a dessert wine named "Violetta" for Violet Grgich. The wines have been served at state dinners for world leaders such as Presidents Ronald reagan and Bill Clinton, Queen Elizabeth II and French President François Mitterrand

The cost is $115 per person, plus tax and gratuity.

Geyser Peak Wine Dinner in the English Grill with Special Guest, Darryl Groom, Winemaker - Thursday, August 9, 2007

 Louisvillians will get a taste of Sonoma’s Wine Country when Geyser Peak Winemaker Darryl Groom joins The Brown Hotel’s Executive Chef Laurent Géroli for a special Geyser Peak wine dinner on Thursday, August 9, 2007. The five- course dinner will be complemented by varietals from the award-winning winery. Darryl Groom will be on hand to discuss the wines, winemaking and the art of pairing.

In addition to being winemaker for Geyser Peak, Groom is a winemaker and owner of Groom Wines and Vice President of Winemaking & Operations for Peak Wines International. Prior to this position, he was both Senior White Winemaker and Senior Red Winemaker for Penfolds Wines in Australia. He is a frequent judge for numerous international wine shows and has been a guest speaker on the Queen Mary 2 and Seabourne cruise lines. He has also been a repeat guest on E! Television. His accolades include several “Winemaker of the Year” awards from such national publications as San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times and Dallas Morning News. Food & Wine magazine named Groom “One of 11 Visionaries to Change the World of Wine” while the IWSC named him “International Winemaker of the Year.”

Hot Brown Art Contest

The famous Hot Brown sandwich has garnered a lot of attention and has been featured in Southern Living Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, NBC's Today Show, as well as being included as a regular entry in many of the finest cookbooks and in featured stories on The Travel Channel and in Saveur magazine. Now local artists can win a chance to gain some attention of their own by paying tribute to the open - faced turkey sandwich. Gallery at the Brown is holding a Hot Brown Art Contest. The winning artist will win a chance to showcase and sell his or her original art at the gallery.
