The Louisville Zoo: Preserving Nature’s Bounty for Five Decades

May 08, 2018

As the cosmopolitan hub of Kentucky, Louisville is blessed not only with dynamic communities of people from all over the world but also with one of the most vibrant communities of animals anywhere in the country. Hailing from all seven continents, the fun and fascinating creatures at the Louisville Zoo are arranged into diverse exhibits like Lorikeet Landing (Aus), Wallaroo Walkabout (Aus), Gorilla Forest (Afr), Leopard Leap (Asia), Penguin Cove (Aus), and the Rainforest (S Am and Asia), just to name a handful. Our favorite exhibit is probably Glacier Run, a fictional village built for mining gold on the edge of the Arctic frontier. In this exhibit, nature and civilization converge in exciting and informative displays, where zoologists and other expert staff introduce you to bears both grizzly and polar and help to cultivate an understanding of the importance of conservation (one of the zoo’s main objectives overall). Whether you’re a lone business traveler, a couple on a romantic getaway, or a family looking for fun, the Louisville Zoo provides the perfect afternoon outing to help you reconnect with this extraordinary planet we call home.
